DEATH OF MR. WILLIAM WYATT
The death of Mr. William Wyatt occurred at his residence, Glencoe,
Anderton-street, Marrickville, on Tuesday last, in his 92nd year.
Born at Ashburton, Cornwall, England, in 1836, he eventually became
master of Haverford West Training College, Wales, and later accepted a
position in New South Wales under the old denominational schools’
system. His first charges were at Dungog and Wallsend respectively,
followed by his appointment as headmaster of the Newtown Public School.
He retired from the Public Service in 1895. Mr. Wyatt took great
interest in local matters in the early days, and was actively associated
with St. Stephen’s, Newtown, under the late Canon Taylor, and more
recently at St. Clement’s, Marrickville, under the late Canon Bellingham
and his successor, Archdeacon Martin. He was an original member of the
P.A.F.S., of which he was secretary for some years, and was a W.P.M. of
the order.
Mr. Wyatt married in 1860 Georgina, daughter of the late Samuel Rowe, a
noted sculptor, of Exeter, Devon, who predeceased her husband by 20
years. He is survived by one son, Mr. Montague Wyatt, formerly
headmaster of Sans Souci Public School, and three daughters, Misses Ada
and Beatrice Wyatt and Mrs. R. J. Baldwin. The funeral will take place
at Waverley Cemetery today.
