Obituary
On Saturday, the 25th instant, Wm. V. Williams, of Jordan Valley, Oregon, yielded up his life, after a long struggle and Malheur county lost one of her best known and most esteemed citizens, whose loss is equally mourned in this neighboring county of Owyhee. Mr. Williams was born in Cornwall, England, in 1846, came to this country when a boy, and to Silver City in 1868, in the prime of his younger manhood. He was a resident of Silver City until 1883 when in company with Mr. J. C. McLafferty, he purchased and has since had management of the Jordan Valley hotel. He was married, in 1884 to Miss B. C. Larsen, whom he now leaves a widow, with one child, to mourn his loss.
As a business man, the deceased was careful, conservative, reliable, prompt, and withal public spirited and liberal. He was a most generous friend, but a good hater of everything narrow minded or mean; a most genial and companionable man, and his loss is an irreparable one to the community where he made his home.
For a number of years past he has been almost a constant sufferer from rheumatism, and of late had added to this a disease of the stomach, which at times made his sufferings almost unbearable; but through all of his sufferings he maintained a cheerfulness which has been a continual surprise to his friends.
He was an esteemed member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, belonging to Owyhee Lodge No. 2, of Silver City, and his funeral services were conducted here, on Monday last, by his lodge, and attended by nearly the entire town as well as Jordan and Pleasant Valleys.
The deceased leaves relatives in England and California to whom notices of his death have been dispatched.
