November 1955 WHITE. - Friends of Mr. William White, of Allingham Street, Golden Square, regretted to learn of his death on Sunday, after a prolonged illness, at the age of 90. Deceased was born in Penzance (Cornwall), he came to Australia with his parents when he was 10. Some years later the family made their home in Allingham Street. He had resided in the one home for 70 years. He had worked throughout the goldfields of Bendigo and was the city's oldest surviving miner. He was a man of genial disposition, well known and respected. His wife, the late Mrs. Bertha White, predeceased him by seven months and he is survived by his son Eric, of Golden Square, and daughter (Mrs. Newson, of Melbourne). The funeral yesterday afternoon, which was largely attended, left from the chapel of Wm. Farmer, after a family service, for Bendigo cemetery. Rev. C. R. Phillips officiated.
