The South Australian Register,
Thursday 27 May 1897 DEATH OF MR. W. WEAR.—Mr. W. Wear, an old colonist, and for many years a resident of Payneham, passed away quietly on Wednesday morning at the age of eighty-two. Mr. Wear came out to Victoria from Cornwall in 1841. A few years after this date he settled in South Australia, carrying on business in Hindley-street. In 1852 the deceased left for the diggings. He was afterwards one of the first settlers in the Mackay District, Queensland. Mr. Wear returned to Adelaide in 1882, and took up his abode in Payneham, where he has lived ever since. He was one of the founders of St. Aidan’s Church in that township, and Church warden of the same for ten years. He always took a very warm interest in the Church of England, of which he was a most attached and consistent member. The deceased was twice married. He is survived by a widow, and two daughters by his first wife. The South Australian Register,
