MINER KILLED
BROKEN HILL, Wednesday.
Samuel Smitherham, miner, was killed in the Block 10 on Tuesday. He and
a companion were being hauled from the 1715 level to the 1615 level, and
after passing the latter level Smitherham leaned out of the bucket to
pull the signal-line. He overbalanced, and fell 190ft to the bottom of
the shaft. Death was instantaneous. Smitherham was a married man, and
lived at Railway Town.
