Wednesday 30 September 1936 There passed away at Charters Towers recently, Elizabeth Jane Rodda, aged 85 years 9 months. Born at Crowan, Cornwall, Mrs. Rodda arrived at Adelaide in the sailing ship Oakland in 1877, but soon left for Bendigo, and in 1887 arrived at Charters Towers, where she had remained ever since. She was married in 1867 to Matthew Rodda, who predeceased her by 51 years, and reared a family of 10, seven sons and three daughters, four of whom have since died. Remaining members are Bill (Hughenden), Mra. Ogilvie, Ernest ("Socker") and Matt (Charters Towers), Mrs. J. H. Elliott (Brisbane), and Mrs. Townsend (Parkes. N.S.W.). She also leaves 33 grandchildren ana 21 great-grand-children to mourn their loss. Contributed by Judy Holman |
