The South Australian Register,
Thursday 17 March 1859
(Adelaide, South Australia)
DEATH.
On the 19th February, at Kooringa, Ann Phillips, aged 28 years, the
beloved wife of William Phillips, and eldest daughter of Benjamin and
Ann Penhalurick, from Carhanock, Cornwall.
Transcriber's Note: Kooringa was the first company township in
Australia and, until the closure of the mine, was maintained as a
strictly company-run town. The township's name is derived from the
Aboriginal word kuri-ngga meaning either in the circle or locality of
the sheoak. (Tree)
