CHARTERS TOWERS, September 13
Edward Peters, a miner in the Dan O’Connell mine, met with a serious
accident this morning. A hole was charged with dynamite, and the other
men left for safety. Peters remained in what he thought was a safe
place, though cautioned by his mates to come further away. When the
explosion took place a piece of stone hit Peters on the right side of
his head, fracturing his skull. He is not expected to recover.
September 15
