NETTLE.—April 22, 1917, at private hospital, Burwood, John Henry, beloved husband of Eva Nettle, and father of Iva (on active service), Olive, and Jack Nettle, in his 76th year. A noble life ended.

DEATH OF MR. J. H. NETTLE
The death occurred in a private hospital at Burwood on Sunday, at the age of 74 years, of Mr. John Henry Nettle, manager of the manchester department of Messrs. Anthony Hordern and Sons, Ltd., whose service he entered 36 years ago. Mr. Nettle was a native of Cornwall, and at the age of 11 years accompanied his parents to O’Connell Plains, near Bathurst. In his early manhood he engaged in a business in Newcastle, which he was obliged to relinquish about 38 years ago in consequence of a big strike. He is survived by a widow, two sons, and two daughters. One of his sons, Lieutenant Stanley Nettle, is serving in France, and one of his daughters, Nurse Nettle, is serving in the first Birmingham War Hospital.
The funeral took place at Rookwood cemetery yesterday, a service at the home, Harmsworth, Edwin-street, Croydon and at the graveside being conducted by the Rev. Langford Smith, of St. Andrew’s Church, Summer Hill. The private mourners were Messrs. J. B. Nettle (son), J. W. Hall (son-in-law), Eric and Fred. Chrispian (nephews). The management of Messrs. Anthony Hordern and Sons, Ltd., was represented by Mr. J. H. Harris (director), and the various departments were represented by Messrs. A. Garbutt, R. Winning, D. Allan, F. Panigton, T. W. Hitchings, J. F. Turner, A. W. Sommerville, and W. A. Backland.
