Death of Jas. B. Martyn
Another early settler has passed away. Mr. Jas. B. Martyn, who came to
Winnebago county in 1836, settling near Rockford, afterwards removing to
Cherry Valley, and subsequently to Belvidere, where he has lived for the
past twenty-five years, died at his residence in Belvidere, on Sunday.
At the annual meeting of the Early Settlers’ Society, held in this city
Monday arrangements were made for a number to attend the funeral at
Belvidere, Tuesday, at 2 o’clock.
Jas. B. Martyn was born Dec. 28, 1801, in the Parish of Provus, County
of Cornwall, England. He came to this country in 1836, and settled on a
farm near Rockford. Subsequently he purchased the Cherry Valley Mills,
and afterwards the Belvidere Mills. Mr. Martyn leaves a widow and
grown-up children.
