(Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, USA)
A FATAL FAILURE
One of a Cluster of Blasts Hangs Fire and Results in Death.
Edward MARTIN, a brother of the inside superintendent of Simpson &
Watkins' mines, was killed on Saturday at the Forty Fort colliery. He
was driving a rook tunnel and had charge and fired four holes, as was
supposed, but upon returning to the place one that hung fire was
discharged and MARTIN was almost instantly killed. He leaves a wife, one
son John, employed in Levy Brothers store, this city, and two daughters,
who live at home in Forty Fort, whence the funeral took place yesterday
afternoon. Deceased was 51 years old, a native of Cornwall, England, a
Son of St. George and a member of the Knights of Honor. He was a man
thoroughly respected and exceptionally popular with his associates.
