James Lanyon
CHESHIRE, Conn., Jan. 23.—James Lanyon died at his late residence on the
morning of the 22d inst., at the age of 68. Mr Lanyon was born in
Cornwall, England, and came to Cheshire in 1841 as the general
superintendent of the Stamford Manufacturing company, a portion of the
company’s business being located here, which position he held until the
closing of the company’s affairs in 1878. He was director of the
Cheshire Manufacturing company, the American Braid company and the
Cheshire Watch company, was one of the select men of the town for four
years, and represented the town in the legislature in 1875. He was an
influential member and trustee of the Methodist church for over thirty
years, and was held in high esteem by all. He was married in 1844 to
Lucretia A. Brooks, who survives him with a son, Wesley A. Lanyon. His
funeral will be attended from the Methodist church on Saturday, the 24th
inst., at 2 o’clock p.m.
