(Nelson, New Zealand)

RIWAKA.—We regret to announce the death, at Riwaka, of Mr. Thomas Jacka, on Saturday last. Mr. Jacka has represented the Motueka district in the Provincial Council for the last two or three years, and he devoted himself to the duties of the office with great energy and attention. We have not heard who is likely to be brought forward to fill the vacancy.

Transcriber’s note: Born in Sithney, Thomas Jacka was the great-grandfather of Sir Keith Jacka Holyoake, Prime Minister of New Zealand briefly in 1957 and again from 1960 to 1972.
