OBITUARY
Another old Gympie resident, Mr. W. H. Hooper, of Deep Creek, passed
away on Monday, at the age of 69 years. Born in Lishead, Cornwall,
England, he emigrated to Queensland on 1887, and settled in Gympie,
where he had continuously resided for the past 41 years. He followed the
occupation of miner, and worked in several of the leading Gympie mines.
He was one of the successful tribute party which worked the Australasian
Mine with profitable results. On the decline of mining, he engaged in
farming on his property at Deep Creek, and had enjoyed good health up to
about six months ago. He is survived by his widow, three sons, Messrs.
W. Hooper (Tewantin), Jas. Hooper (Deep Creek), and Henry Hooper
(Green’s Creek), and one daughter (Mrs. E. Anderson).
