CUMBERLAND, MD., Jan. 14.—John Hocking, one of the most extensive coal operators in the Meyersdale region, whose early investigation induced much Baltimore capital to locate there, died on Saturday, aged 80 years. He came from Cornwall, England, very poor, but by hard work amassed wealth. He leaves five sons engaged in mining an merchandising in the region, and four daughters.
