MR. GEORGE HERN
Death At Lefroy
Mr. George Hern, aged 84 years, died at Lefroy yesterday. For more than
20 years during the whole of the working of the New Pinafore Gold Mine,
Mr. Hern was its underground manager. Born in Cornwall, England, Mr.
Hern lived more than 40 years at Lefroy. He was considered an expert in
underground quartz mining, and was frequently engaged in a consultative
capacity by mining companies, particularly when drilling for deep leads
was contemplated. He lived in retirement at Lefroy during the past 10
years. His wife died 40 years ago. He is survived by Mesdames W. H.
Stubs (Mowbray, Launceston), L. A. White (Sassafras), Miss Blanche Hern
(Lefroy), and Mr. Jack Hern, who is employed in the Tramways Department
at Launceston. Interment will take place at Lefroy today.
