Saturday 25 August 1917 Mr. John Harris, the well-known mine manager, died at his residence Pound Hill, Monkland, on Sunday, in his 63rd year (writes our Gympie correspondent). The late Mr. Harris, who was a native of Cornwall, England, was at one time manager of the London Mine, and afterwards of the 2 South Great Eastern, and latterly of the Scottish Gympie. He leaves behind four sons (Wm., John, Joseph, and Stephen) and two married daughters. His wife predeceased him about six years ago. One son, Oliver, was killed at Gallipoli.
