OBITUARY
Mr. James Harris, one of the oldest residents of Avoca, has died, aged
86 years. Born in Cornwall, England, Mr. Harris was brought to South
Australia when 13 months old. At six years of age he went to Avoca with
his parents, and he had resided there ever since. When a young man he
entered the employ of Mr. E. Snell, general storekeeper, eventually
becoming bookkeeper and accountant, and remaining in Mr. Snell’s employ
for 47 years. He was well known in sporting circles in his younger days,
and was a horseman of some note. He was one of the oldest members of the
Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows. He leaves a widow,
five sons, and three daughters.
