Mr. Benjamin Harris, whose death was reported recently at Broken Hill, was a native of Cornwall (England), where he was born in 1852. He arrived in Australia in 1887, coming to Charters Towers, where he lived for 26 years. He was shift boss at the Brilliant Mine for 15 years and left for Broken Hill to reside with some of his family 16 years ago. He was always closely connected with the Methodist Church there and took part in all its activities within his reach. In Broken Hill he was connected with the Northern Circuit. For some time past he was superintendent of the McCullock-street Sunday School and was well known there as a local preacher. He was made a Justice of the Peace in 1920. Mr. Harris leaves a grown-up family, grand-children, and great grand-children to mourn his loss. His wife pre-deceased him 16 years ago. Contributed by Bob Bolitho |
