Chief's Loss Regretted
Sympathy was expressed by the city council Wednesday to Fire Chief
Edward Grenfell and his family in the loss of his father, Edward Reed
Grenfell at McMinnville, March 22, after a residence of 59 years in
Yamhill county. The father was born in Penzance, Cornwall, England, in
1850, and came to America in 1869, and 62 years ago in Portland married
Miss Anna Shank, a native of New Zealand, who also came to Oregon to
make her home. Battalion Chief William A. Grenfell and Captain Ernest R.
Grenfell of the Portland fire bureau also are sons, besides other
children in other parts of the state.
