PERSONAL
The late Mr. George R. George, whose death occurred at his residence,
Sandgate, was in his 75th year. Mr. George was born in Cornwall,
England, in 1847. With his wife he arrived in Australia by the sailing
ship Indus, in 1872, and took up work at Copperfield. In 1875 the family
proceeded to Gympie, where Mr. George worked in the mining industry for
upwards of 30 years. He held the managership of some of the leading
mines of the time. Later he was forced to relinquish his work, as he
found it too strenuous for his declining years. Mr. George then took up
his residence at Sandgate. He is survived by his widow and family of
four sons—Messrs. John George (school inspector), Henry George (Auburn,
Sydney), Richard George (Fremantle), and William George (draper,
Wooloowin)—and two daughters—Miss Annie George and Mrs. T. J. F. Costin
(Paddington).
