GRANTHAM
Obituary.—By the death of Mr. John Ford, Grantham Scrub, on April 11,
the district has lost another of its pioneers. The late Mr. Ford, who
was born in 1853, in Cornwall, England, came to Queensland in 1880, and
his first engagements were at Melrose and Tent Hill stations. He
purchased property near Grantham, and carried on mixed farming and
dairying, winning respect, and securing a wide circle of friends. The
remains were interred in the Toowoomba Cemetery, after a service at St.
Patrick’s Cathedral, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Madden. The deceased is
survived by his widow, one son, and four daughters. One son, Henry, lost
his life in the Great War, and one daughter, Mrs. Tryhorn, died three
years ago. The only surviving son, Major T. Ford, College-road, Gatton,
saw several years of active service.
