Pomeroy's Democrat, Saturday 15 January 1876
(Illinois)

GEORGE EARLE, the founder of Hobart, died suddenly in Philadelphia, Jan. 4. He was born in Cornwall, England, Feb. 5, 1807. A desire to travel and improvement of his fortunes brought him to America in 1835, and in 1850 he settled in Philadelphia. He invested largely in wild lands, and founded Hobart, which was his residence for many years, until recently, when he has lived in Philadelphia. He was engaged heavily in brokerage and real estate transactions, which took him frequently back to his native land, and while abroad his business was managed by his son, John G. Earle, of Chicago. His remains were sent to Hobart for interment.
