FORMER RESIDENT DEAD.
William Cornish Succumbs at his Home in Scranton.
William Cornish of Scranton, formerly of this city a well-known resident
died yesterday aged 59 years. He was born in Stratton, Cornwall, England
on June 2, 1840 and came to Carbondale in 1845. He was married to Miss
Fannie Higgins on April 30, 1859, and in the same year removed to
Scranton, where he was employed as a blacksmith by the Delaware,
Lackawanna, & Western company until 1862, when he enlisted in company C,
forty-first regiment, Pennsylvania militia and served under colonel
Frank K. Hain. At the close of the war he engaged in the butchering
business in which he became very successful. He was a prominent Odd
Fellow and was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends. He is
survived by the widow, one daughter, Elizabeth, and three sons, William
N, of Austen, Ill. Henry and Frank of this city.
