(Rockhampton, Queensland)

The Salvation Army Eventide Home, in Glenrosa Road, Red Hill, Brisbane, contains a number of old residents of Queensland who spent their declining years there in happiness and contentment. Occasionally one of them is called to his rest, but there is soon an applicant for the vacancy. The last to pass away was James Carbis, who died on the 3rd instant. The deceased, who was 82 years of age, was born in Penzance, Cornwall, England, and served as a soldier with General Gordon in China and in the Soudan. Later he became a sailor and travelled to the ports of the world. He was held in high respect by those who knew him. He was buried at Toowong cemetery on the 5th instant, Commandment A. E. Clark conducting the service at the graveside.
