PITTSTON
DEATH OF MR. BRENTON
The death of Joel Brenton, which was briefly reported yesterday, has
caused widespread regret among his many friends here. Mr. Brenton was a
man highly respected throughout East and West Pittston for his fine
business and social qualities. He was born in Cornwall, England, in
1829. He settled in Pittston when a young man and for more than 50 years
conducted a paint shop in one storeroom. Mr. Brenton is survived by his
widow, to whom he was wedded more than 50 years ago, and the following
sons and daughters: Frank Brenton, of Wilkes-Barre; Willis Brenton, of
West Pittston; Mrs. Arch Law, of Scranton, and Mrs. John Flanagan, of
Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of the following organizations: Valley
Lodge, F. and A. M.; Gohonto Lodge, I. O. O. F.; Pittston Council, Royal
Arcanum; Black Diamond Lodge, Knights of Honor, and Keystone Lodge, Sons
of St. George. The funeral is to be held Monday afternoon.
