PERSONAL MATTERS
Mr Chas. Bray, Engineer for the Oroua County Council, who died a few
days ago, was born in Cornwall sixty-seven years ago, and came to New
Zealand when a young man. He landed at Nelson, and resided in that
district for a number of years, following up goldmining, and undertaking
road and bridge building contracts. He also contracted the railway line
from Picton to Blenheim. Coming to Feilding when the block was taken up
by the Colonists’ Land and Loan Corporation, Mr Bray undertook the
duties of Road Engineer for the Corporation, and it was he who laid out
the streets of Feilding and practically the whole of the roads in this,
the Kiwitea, Kimbolton, and the Ashurst districts.
