SIR JOHN BICE
DEATH ANNOUNCED
ADELAIDE, Friday.
Sir John Bice, the Chief Secretary in the South Australian Ministry,
died in Adelaide to-day from pneumonia.
Sir John Bice, who was aged 70 years, had been prominently associated
with the public life of the State for nearly 30 years. He had been a
Minister of the Crown for some years, and on several occasions during
the absence from the State of the Premier he was Acting Premier. Sir
John Bice figured in many interstate gatherings a few weeks ago. It was
decided that he should represent South Australia at the Empire
Exhibition in London next year. He was a native of Cornwall, and settled
in South Australia in 1864. In Moonta he learned the blacksmithing
trade, and later entered into business at Port Augusta. He first entered
politics in 1894, as the representative of the Northern District in the
Legislative Council. A State funeral will take place to-morrow.
