3 October 1918 Last evening the death occurred at the residence of his daughter, Mrs Hooper, of Makora road, Masterton, of Mr William Betty. The deceased, who was 81 years of age, was born in Cornwall, and arrived in Masterton 41 years ago. He succeeded Mr Harry Croad as overseer of the Masterton borough, and retained the position until age compelled him to retire. He was an honest workman and a genial friend. He was predeceased by Mrs Betty twelve years ago. He leaves a family of three sons and two daughters. The sons are Messrs W. Betty (Wellington), R. T. Betty (Foxton), and John Betty (Masterton), and the daughters are Mrs J. A. Gifford (Napier, formerly of Eketahuna) and Mrs Hooper (Masterton). The funeral leave Mr J. Betty’s house in Hogg Crescent for the Masterton Cemetery to-morrow afternoon at 3.30. Contributed by Bob Bolitho |
