OBITUARY
The death took place in the Home Hill District Hospital of Mr. Sam
Berryman at the age of 48 years. The sad event took place on Tuesday
morning, February 26. The deceased gentleman was a native of Cornwall,
England, and came to Australia many years ago, and for some little time
was a resident of Charters Towers, where he followed mining pursuits,
and later migrated to the Lower Burdekin. Of recent years he has been a
sufferer of that dreaded disease, miners’ phthisis, to which he
eventually succumbed, leaving a sorrowing wife and family to mourn,
besides several other relatives in this country. The funeral, which left
the Masonic Hall on Wednesday morning, was largely attended, the Church
of England Burial Service being conducted by Rev. W. Hume, whilst the
Masonic Ritual was read by the Worshipful Master, Wor. Bro. R. H.
McClelland.
