OBITUARY
By the death of Mr William Barrett, which took place on Sunday morning last, Cambrian Hill loses one of its oldest and most respected residents. Mr Barrett, who was in his 83rd year, was born at Tilhampton (Kilkhampton?), in Cornwall, and came to Victoria 61 years ago, and had resided in this district since. He was connected with the Black Lead Methodist Church for over 50 years, and for the greater part of that time acted as teacher and superintendent of the Sunday school, resigning about two years ago on account of ill-health. The deceased leaves one son, Mr Thomas C. Barrett, and one daughter, Mrs James Satchell, both of whom reside at Cambrian Hill. His wife predeceased him about eight years ago. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon at the Buninyong Cemetery and was largely attended. The Sunday school scholars and teachers marched in procession to the graveside. The Rev. R. B. Roberts conducted an impressive service at the house and grave. Members of the Buninyong and Sebastopol I.O.R. assembled at the cemetery, and Br W. Coltman, P.D.C.R., Excelsior Tent, No. 18, I.O.R., read the Lodge service. The coffin-bearers were four grandsons of deceased, viz., Messrs Thomas, George, Henry, and Herbert Satchell. The pall-bearers were Crs R. Odgers and J. Bray, Dr Longden, and Messrs H. Vernon (chairman Buninyong Butter Factory), G. Bedggood, W. David, J. Hives, Wm. Robertson (Woodlands), W. Davies, E. Morcom, E. Bowden, and S. Bray. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs F. W. Barnes and Son.
