Will of Thomas Bersey, dated 5 February 1744

In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Bersey belonging to
his Majesty’s Ship the Preston the Right Honourable the Earl of Northesk Commander
being in Bodily health and of Sound and Disposeing Mind and Memory and Considering the
perils and Dangers of the Seas and Other Uncertaintyes of this Transitory Life
do for avoiding Contreversies after my Decease Make Publish and Declare this my Last
Will and Testament in Manner following (That is to say) First I recommend my Soul
To God that gave it, and my Body I commit to the Earth or Sea as it shall
Please God to Order and as for and Concerning all my Worldy Estate I give
Bequeath and Disperse thereof as follow (that is to say) All my Wages Prize Money Short
Allowance Money with all Other Sum and Sums of Money Lands
Tenements Goods Chattels and Estate whatsoever as shall anyways due
Oweing or belonging unto me at the time of my Decease I do Give Devise
And Bequeath the same unto my Honoured Father Thomas Bersey living in
The parish of Tywardreath in the County of Cornwall And I do hereby Nominate and
Appoint my said Father the Whole and Sole Executer of this my last
Will and Testament hereby revokeing all former and Other Wills Testaments
And Deeds of Gift by me at any time heretofore made And I do Ordain and
Ratifye those Present to Hand and be for and as my Only last Will and
Testament In Witness whereof to this my said Will I have Sett my hand
And Seal the Twenty fifth Day of February in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven
Hundred and forty four and in the Eighteenth Year of the Reign of His Majesty King George
the second over Great Brittain etc?

The above written will was proved in Common form the 6th Day of October 1746 before the
Revd. Mr Wm. Waddon Clerk Mr. of Art Official etc? And Admion of the Goods etc? of the
said Deced and of all things howsoever concerning his said Will was Granted to Thomas
Bersey the Father and Executer therein named being first Sworn etc? Saving etc?
Hedyed in his Majestys Service

The above written Will is a true Coppy of the last Will
and Testament of the above named Thomas Bersey
Examined and Compared with the Original 31 day of
Oct. 1746 By us
