Indenture concerning Trenarlet and Penhale, St Tudy,
18 October 1832
Manor of Tinten
Be it remembered that a Special Court held in and for the said manor at
Holles Gate in the parish of Saint Tudy in the County of Cornwall/
parcel of the Customary Lands of the said Manor/ the Eighteenth day of
October in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight Hundred and thirty
two Before Charles Coode Gentleman, Deputy Steward, Giles Jory Lang,
Reeve, Henry Cottell, and Richard Grose, Customary Tenants of the said
Manor.
Whereas, Harry Hocken of Trenarlet in the parish of Saint Tudy in
the County of Cornwall Gentleman hath by his Petition set forth that he
holds for his own life and the life of Mary Hocken his Sister by copy of
Court Roll bearing date the fourteenth day of February One thousand
Eight hundred and six three Tenements in Trenarlet and a Cottage House
and garden at Penhale within the said Manor parcel of the annexed Duchy
of Cornwall in the County of Cornwall under the old yearly Rent of Three
pounds ten shillings and Four pence halfpenny together with Five pounds
Eighteen shillings and eight pence per annum for the redeemed Land tax
and praying that a Reversionary copy of the said premises might be
granted to him for the life of William Hocken his son aged two years for
a moderate fine and under the same old yearly Rent Which Petition being
referred to Timothy Brent Esquire, Surveyor General of the Duchy of
Cornwall he hath reported that he was of opinion that the said Harry
Hocken might add a third life thereon as desired for the fine and Fees
of Four hundred pounds reserving the old yearly Rent of Three pounds ten
shillings and Four pence halfpenny together with Five pounds Eighteen
shillings and eight pence per annum for the redeemed Land tax upon the
said premises.
Whereupon at this court came the said Harry Hocken and took of
the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod according to the custom of the
said Manor by His delivery of the said Deputy Steward/ in pursuance of a
Warrant bearing the Nineteenth day of April last past directed to the
Steward of the said Manor or his lawful Deputy/ the Tenements Cottage
House and Garden with the appurtenances for the life of the said William
Hocken To hold to him for life according to the custom of the said Manor
in the Reversion of the said Harry Hocken and Mary Hocken/now Mary Bligh
Under and subject to the old yearly Rent of Three pounds Ten shillings
and four pence halfpenny together with Five pounds Eighteen shillings
and Eight pence per annum for the redeemed Land tax Together with all
Heriots works customs and other Services heretofore formerly due and of
right accustomed And for such his Estate in the premises as aforesaid
the said Harry Hocken gave to the Lord of the said Manor for a Fine
Three hundred and ninety four pounds and his admittance and fealty is
respited Until and so forth Given under my hand and Seal the day and
year first above written/.
