Settlement Paper for Thomas Johns and family, dated
19 September 1793
CORNWALL (to wit)
To the Churchwardens, and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of
Antony St Jacob in the County of Cornwall and to the
Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Sheviock
in the said County of Cornwall and to each and every of them.
Upon the Complaint of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the
Parish of Sheviock aforesaid in the said County of Cornwall,
unto us whose names are hereunto set, and Seals affixed, being two of
His Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in and for the said County of
Cornwall and one of us of the Quorum, that Thomas Johns
Elizabeth his wife Thomas his son aged three years Jenniford his
daughter aged five years and Rebecca his daughter aged three months
did lately come to inhabit in the said Parish of Antony St Jacob
not having gained a legal Settlement nor produced any Certificate,
owning them to be settled elsewhere and that the said Thomas Johns
Elizabeth his wife Thomas his son and Jenniford and Rebecca his
daughters are likely to be chargeable to the said Parish of Antony
St Jacobi
We the said Justices upon due proof made thereof, as well upon
Examination of the said Thomas Johns upon Oath, as otherwise,
and likewise upon due consideration had of the Premises, to adjudge the
same to be true ; and we do likewise adjudge that the last lawful
Settlement of them the said Thomas Johns Elizabeth his wife
Thomas his son and Jenniford and Rebecca his daughters is in the
said Parish of Sheviock
We do therefore require you the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the
Poor in the said Parish of Antony St Jacob in the said County
of Cornwall or some, or one of you, to convey the said Thomas Johns
Elizabeth his wife Thomas his son and Jenniford and Rebecca his
daughters from and out of your said Parish of Antony St Jacob
to the said Parish of Sheviock and them to deliver to
the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor there, or to some or one of
them, together with this our Order, or a true copy thereof ; and we do
also hereby order you, the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the the
Poor of the said Parish of Sheviock to receive and provide for
them as Inhabitants of your said Parish
Given under our Hands and Seals, the Nineteenth Day of September in the
Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety three
