Sheviock Parish Page Apprenticeship Indenture for John Westlake, dated 1 April 1828This Indenture, made the first day of
April in the ninth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the
Fourth by the Grace of God of Great Britain, and Ireland, King,
Defender of the Faith, and in the Year of our Lord, One Thousand Eight
Hundred and twenty eight
Witnesseth, that in Pursuance and in Execution of an Order under the
hands of William Little Esquire and Thomas Hunt Ley Clerk
two of of His Majesty’s
Justices of the Peace, acting in and for the South Division of
the Hundred of East within the County of Cornwall
bearing even date herewith (testified by their Allowance
hereof.) Samuel Lyne and Robert Warren Churchwardens of the
Parish of Sheviock in the said County and John Trevan one of the
Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish have put and placed,
and by these Presents do put and and place John Westlake aged
twelve Years and upwards, a poor Child of the
said Parish Apprentice to John Batten of the said Parish
Yeoman
with him to dwell and serve from the Day of the Date of these
Presents, until the said Apprentice shall accomplish his full Age of Twenty
One Years according to the Statute in that Case made and provided,
DURING all which Term the said Apprentice his said Master
faithfully shall serve in all lawful Business, according to his
Power, Wit, and Ability, and honestly, orderly, and obediently, in all
things demean and behave himself towards him the said Master
and all his during the said Term. AND the said John Batten
for himself, his Executors, and Administrators, doth
Covenant and Grant, to and with the said Churchwardens and Overseers, and every
of them, their and every of their Executors and Administrators, and
their and every of their Successors for the Time being, by these
Presents, that he the said John Batten the said
Apprentice in husbandry shall teach and instruct, or cause to be
taught and instructed, in the best way and manner that he can.
