Apprenticeship Indenture for Francis Hands, dated 5
July 1826

This Indenture, made the fifth day of July in the
seventh year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the
Fourth by the Grace of God of Great Britain, and Ireland, King,
Defender of the Faith, and in the Year of our Lord 1826
Witnesseth that Samuel Lyne and Robert Warren Church-Wardens of
the Parish of Sheviock in the said County and Robert
Rickard and Thomas Bewes Overseers of the Poor of the said
Parish of Sheviock by and with the consent of his Majesty’s
Justices of the Peace for the said County of Cornwall whose
Names are hereunto subscribed, and by virtue and in pursuance of an
Order in Writing made by and under the Hands and Seals of Francis
Glanville Esquire and William Little Esquire Two of His Majesty’s
Justices of The Peace in and for the said County, in pursuance of the
Statute in that case made and provided, and bearing even date herewith,
have put and placed, and by these Presents do put and place Francis
Hands aged Ten Years or thereabouts a poor Child of the
said Parish of Sheviock Apprentice to Thomas Bewes yeoman
with him to dwell and serve from the Day of the Date of these
Presents, until the said Apprentice shall come to the Age of Twenty
One Years according to the Statute in that Case made and provided :
During all which Term the said Apprentice his said Master
faithfully shall serve in all lawful Business, according to his
Power, Wit, and Ability: and honestly, orderly, and obediently, in all
things demean and behave himself towards his said Master
and all his during the said Term. And the said Thomas Bewes
for himself, his Executors, and Administrators, doth
Covenant and Grant, to the said Church-Wardens and Overseers, and every
of them, their and every of their Executors and Administrators, and
their and every of their Successors for the Time being, by these
Presents. That he the said Francis Hands the said
Apprentice in Husbandry shall teach and instruct or cause to be
taught and instructed in the best way and manner that he can.
And shall and will during all the Term aforesaid, find, provide, and
allow, unto the said Apprentice, meet, competent, and sufficient Meat,
Drink, and Apparel, Lodging, Washing, and all other Things, necessary
and fit for an Apprentice; Provided always, That the said last mentioned
Covenant on the Part and Behalf of the said Thomas Bewes his
Executors and Administrators, to be done and performed, shall continue
to be in force for no longer Time than Three Calendar Months next after
the death of the said Thomas Bewes in case the said Thomas
Bewes shall happen to die during the Continuance of such
Apprenticeship, according to the Provisions of an Act passed in the
Thirty second Year of the Reign of King George the Third, intituled "An
Act for the further Regulation of Parish Apprentices" And also shall and
will so provide for the said Apprentice that he be not any way
a Charge to the said Parish of Sheviock or Parishioners of the
same: but of and from all Charge shall and will save the
Parishioners of the said Parish harmless and indemnified during the
said Term.
In Witness Whereof the Parties abovesaid to these present Indentures,
interchangeably have put their Hands and Seals, the Day and Year above
written.

We whose Names are hereunder written, Justices of the Peace for
the South Division Hundred of East in and for
the County of Cornwall (whereof one is of the Quorum)
Do
consent the putting forth Francis Hands a Poor Boy
an Apprentice, according to the Intent and Meaning of
this Indenture; and do sign this our allowance of such
Indenture of Apprenticeship before the same hath been
executed by any of the other parties thereto, in
pursuance of the Statute made and provided. Dated this
Fifth Day of July in the Year of our
Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty Six.
