BOSANQUET, Armytage Percy, M.C., Capt.
BOSANQUET, Armytage Percy, M.C., Capt., 3rd (Reserve) Battn. The Duke of
Cornwall’s Light Infantry, attached to 5th (Service) Batt. The Duke of
Edinburgh’s (Wiltshire Regt).
Armytage was the son of the Rev. Claude Charles Courthope BOSANQUET
(Vicar of St. Stephens by Saltash) & Mrs. Millicent Percy BOSANQUET.
He was born on the 20th of August at Lowden Vicarage, Notts. He appears
on the 1901 census aged 7, living with his parents & siblings at
Linkinhorne Vicarage, Cornwall. In 1911, his parents and younger brother
were still living in Linkinhorne.
He was educated at St. Mary’s, Horsell, Surrey, Lancing College, Sussex
& Christ Church, Oxford. Whilst at Lancing he was a noted marksman,
becoming captain of the Lancing shooting Vll & was one of the Lancing
pair that gained the Cadets bronze trophy at Bisley in 1909.
Captain Bosanquet was gazetted 2nd Lieut. On the 4th of Sept. 1912,
promoted Lieut. Feb. 1915 (backdated to the previous April) & Captain
May 1915.
Captain Bosanquet served with the British Expeditionary Force in France
between October 1914 & August 1915. After a short term of home service
he left England in November 1915 attached to the 5th Wiltshire Regiment
& proceeded to Mesopotamia where he was killed in action on the 25th of
Jan. 1917. He was buried in the Amara War Cemetery, Iraq
Captain Bosanquet was mentioned twice in Dispatches for gallant &
distinguished service in the field, he was awarded the Military Cross
(London Gazette, 22nd December 1916).
