Settlement Document for Richard & Ann Michell
Removal Order (Richard & Ann Michell) 16th March 1753
Cornwall to wit. To the
Church-Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of
Roach in the County of
Cornwall aforesaid to convey and to the Church-Wardens
and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of
Redruth in the said County to
receive and obey
Whereas Complaint hath been made by you the Church-Wardens and Overseers
of the Poor of the said Parish of Roach unto
us whose Hands and Seals are hereunto set, Two of his Majesty’s Justices
of the Peace (One being of the Quorum) for the County
aforesaid, That Richard Michell Tinner and Ann his wife have
lately intruded themselves into your said
Parish of Roach there to inhabit as
Parishioners contrary to the Laws relating to the Settlement of the
Poor, and are there like to become Chargeable,
if not timely prevented: And whereas, upon due Examination and Enquiry
made into the Premises as well upon the Oath of the said
Richard Michell or otherwise it appears unto Us, and we
accordingly adjudge, That the said Richard Michell and Ann
his wife are likely to become Chargeable unto the said
Parish of Roach and that the last legal Place
of Settlement of the said Richard Michell and Ann his wife
is in the said Parish of Redruth
THESE are therefore, in his Majesty’s Name, to order and require you the
said Church-Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of
Roach aforesaid, that you or some of you, do forthwith
remove and convey the said Richard Michell and Ann his wife
from your said Parish of Roach to the said
Parish of Redruth and them
deliver to the Church-Wardens and Overseers of the Poor there, or some
or one of them, together with this our Warrant, or Order, or a true Copy
hereof; whereby they are likewise required, in his Majesty’s Name, and
by Virtue of the Statutes in such Case made, forthwith to receive the
said Richard Michell and Ann his wife into the
said Parish and provide for them
as their own Parishioners.
Given under our Hands and Seals, the sixteenth
Day of March in the Year of the Reign of
King George the Second now of Great-Britain,
and so forth the twenty sixth and in the Year
of our Lord 1753
