Settlement Document for Elizabeth Couch
Removal Order (Elizabeth Couch) 21st July 1828
Cornwall. To the Churchwardens and Overseers of the
Poor of the Parish of Roach
in the County of Cornwall and to the
Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish
of Withiel in the County of
Cornwall and to each and every of them
UPON the complaint of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the
Parish of Roach
aforesaid, in the said County of Cornwall unto
us whose names are hereunto set and seals affixed, being two of His
Majesty’s Justices of the Peace, in and for the said County of
Cornwall and one of us of the Quorum, that
Elizabeth Couch single woman is come to inhabit in the
said Parish of Roach
not having gained a legal settlement there, nor produced any
Certificate, owning herself to be settled
elsewhere; and that the said Elizabeth Couch is with child
and deemed chargeable to the said Parish
of Roach we the said Justices, upon due proof
thereof, as well upon the Examination of the said Elizabeth
Couch upon Oath, as otherwise, and likewise upon due
consideration had of the Premises, do adjudge the same to be true; and
we do adjudge that the lawful settlement of the said
Elizabeth Couch is in the Parish
of Withiel in the said County of
Cornwall.
We do therefore require you the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the
Poor of the said Parish of Roach
or some one of you, to convey the said Elizabeth Couch
from and out of your said Parish of
Roach to the said Parish of
Withiel and her to
deliver to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor there, or to some
or one of them, together with this our order, or a true Copy thereof, at
the same time shewing to them the Original; and we do hereby require you
the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said
Parish of Withiel to receive
and provide for her as an Inhabitant of your
Parish.
Given under our Hands and Seals, the twenty first
Day of July in the Ninth
Year of the Reign of His Majesty King George the fourth
And in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and
twenty eight
