Samuel Brenton re: Jane Brokenshire
Know all Men by these presents that I Henry Brenton
of the parish of Saint Wenn in the County of Cornwall cordwainer am held
and firmly bound to William Hawkey and Thomas Stick White Churchwardens
and John Retallick and Joseph Knight Overseers of the Poor of the parish
of Roach in the said County (In Trust for the parishioners of the said
parish) in the sum of One Hundred Pounds of good and lawful money of
Great Britain to be paid to the said William Hawkey Thomas Stick White
John Retallick and Joseph Knight or their certain Attorney Executors
Administrators or Assigns To which payment well and truly to be made I
bind myself my Heirs Executors and Administrators firmly by these
presents. Sealed with my seal and dated the fifth day of October in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen
Whereas Jane Brokenshire of the parish of Saint Wenn in the County of
Cornwall singlewoman hath in and by her Voluntary Examination taken in
Writing and upon oath before John Trefusis Clerk one of His Majesty’s
Justices of the Peace in and for the said County declared that she is
with child and that the said child is likely to be born a Bastard and to
be chargeable to the parish of Roach aforesaid and that Samuel Brenton
(son of the above bounden Henry Brenton) is the Father of the said
child. Now the condition of the above obligation is such that if the
said Henry Brenton his Heirs Executors or Administrators do and shall
from time to time until such child or children if Male or Males shall
attain the age of seven years or if Female or Females shall attain the
age of eight years fully and clearly Indemnify and save harmless as well
the above named Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said
parish of Roach and their successors for the time being as also all and
singular the other parishioners and Inhabitants of the said parish of
Roach which now are or hereafter shall be for the time being of and from
all manner of Costs Rates Assessments and Charges whatsoever for or by
reason of the Birth Education and Maintenance of such child or children
as the said Jane Brokenshire is now big with and shall be delivered of
until such child or children shall attain the age aforesaid And also of
and from all actions suits troubles and other Charges and Demands
whatsoever touching or concerning the same then this present obligation
to be void otherwise of full force and virtue
