Powells’ Bond 1755
 

Know all men by these presents that we John Powell of the Parish of Lamorran and Edward Powell Junr of the Parish of Probus and County of Cornwall are held and firmly bound unto Matthew Truscott and Philip Hugoe Churchwardens and Francis Bassett Overseer of the poor of the said Parish of Probus and County aforesaid in the full sum of forty pounds lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid to the said Churchwardens or overseer and their successors for the time being or to their lawfull Attorney for which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves our Heirs executors and administrators and every and either of us by himself or and in the whole firmly by these presents dated this sixth day of February one thousand seven hundred and fifty five.
 
The Condition of this obligation is such that whereas Anne Manuel single woman was lately gotten with child or children within the said parish of Probus being then and is still unmarried if therefore the above bounden John Powell and Edward Powell Junr their Heirs executors or administrators or any of them do and shall from time to time and at all times acquit discharge and save harmless as well the above named Matthew Truscott Philip Hugoe and Francis Bassett Churchwardens and overseer of the Parish Probus aforesaid and their successors for the time being as also the inhabitants and parishioners of the said parish of and from all costs charges and troubles whatsoever for or by reason of the birth maintenance nourishing or bringing up of the said child or children and of and from all other suites charges troubles and demands whatsoever touching or concerning the same then this obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full force and effect.
