Charles Brays Bond in Bastardy

Know all Men by these Presents that I Charles Bray of the Parish of Probus in the County of Cornwall am held and firmly bound unto John Roberts Church Warden and Andrew Buckingham Amos Weeks and Andrew Bond Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Probus (in Trust for the Parishioners of the said Parish) in Twenty Pounds of good and lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid to the said John Roberts Andrew Buckingham Amos Weeks and Andrew Bond or their certain Attorney their Successors Executors Administrators or Assigns, To which Payment well and truly to be made I bind myself my Heirs Executors and Administrators firmly by these Presents. Sealed with my Seal and dated the second Day of October in the thirtysixth Year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lord George the Third of Great Britain, France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth and in the year of Our Lord One Thousand seven Hundred and Ninety-five.
 
The Condition of this Obligation is such that Whereas Mary Webb of the said Parish of Probus and County of Cornwall aforesaid single woman hath in and by her own voluntary Examination taken in Writing and upon Oath before Sir Christopher Hawkins Baronet One of His Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in and for the said County of Cornwall declared that she is now Pregnant and with Child or Children and that the said Child or Children when born will be a Bastard or Bastards and likely to become Chargeable to the said Parish of Probus and that the abovebounden Charles Bray is the Father of the said Child or Children If therefore the said Charles Bray his Heirs Executors or Administrators do and shall from time to time and at all times hereafter fully and clearly indemnify and save harmless as well the abovenamed Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Probus and their Successors for the time being as also all and singular the other Parishioners and inhabitants of the said Parish of Probus which now are or hereafter shall be for the time being of and from all manner of Costs, Taxes, Rates Assessments and Charges whatsoever for or by Reason of the Birth Education and Maintenance of the said Child or Children and of and from all Actions Suits Troubles and other Charges and Demands touching or concerning the same that then this present Obligation to be void Otherwise to remain in full Force and Virtue
