KBarbery’s Bond for maintenance of
Susanna Vercoe’s base child

Know all men by these presents that we William Barbary
Senr and William Barbary Jnr of the Parish of Probus and
County of Cornwall and John Webber of the Parish of
Cornelly and County aforesaid are held and firmly bound
to Philip Hugoe and Matthew Truscott Churchwardens and
Richard Carveth and Francis Bassett Overseers of the
poor of the said Parish of Probus and to their
successors for the time being in the full sum of fifty
pounds of good and lawfull money of Great Britain to be
paid to the said Philip Hugoe and Matthew Truscott
Richard Carveth or Francis Bassett or some or one of
them or to their successors or their lawfull Attorneys
for the time being for which payment well and truly to
be made we bind ourselves and every and either of us by
himself for and in the whole our Heirs executors and
administrators and every of us firmly by these presents.
Sealed with our Seals dated this twentysecond day of
March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred
and fifty five.
The Condition of this obligation is such Whereas Susanna
Vercoe single woman hath been delivered of a bastard
female child which hath actually been chargeable to the
said Parish of Probus if therefore the above Bounden
William Barbary Senr and William Barbary Jnr and John
Webber or any or either of them their or either of their
Heirs executors or administrators shall and will well
and truly pay or cause to be paid into the same Philip
Hugoe Matthew Truscott Richard Carveth and Francis
Bassett or their Successors for the time being the full
sum that is now due to the said Parish being money laid
out by them and former overseers of the said Parish
towards the relief support and maintenance of the said
child And also shall and will from time and at all times
hereafter fully and clearly acquit free and discharge or
well and sufficiently save and keep harmless and
indemnified the above named Philip Hugoe Matthew
Truscott Richard Carveth and Francis Bassett and every
and either of them as also the inhabitants and
Parishioners of the said Parish of Probus which now are
or hereafter shall be for the time being and every of
them of and from all manner of expenses damages costs
and charges whatsoever which shall or may at any time
hereafter arise happen grow or be imposed upon them or
either or any of them for or by reason or means of the
maintenance education and bringing up of the said
bastard child and of and from all other actions suits
troubles charges damages and demands whatsoever touching
or concerning the same then this obligation to be void
and of no effect otherwise to remain and be in full
power force and virtue.
