James & Richd Charles to the Parish of Probus

Know all Men by these Presents that We James Charles and Richard Charles both of the Parish of Probus in the County of Cornwall Yeomen are held and firmly bound unto John Gummow and William Huddy Churchwardens, and Richard Carveth Melchisedec Hotten and Sampson Tresawna Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Probus in the County aforesaid (in Trust for the Parishioners of the said Parish) in Fifty Pounds of good and lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid to the said Churchwardens and Overseers or their certain Attorney their Executors Administrators or Assigns, To which Payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves and each of us jointly and severally and our and each and every of our Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns firmly by these Presents. Sealed with our Seals and dated the Twelfth day of December in the thirtyfirst year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lord George the Third of Great Britain, France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth and in the year of Our Lord One Thousand seven Hundred and Ninety.
 
The Condition of this Obligation is such that Whereas Elizabeth Spry of the said Parish of Probus and County aforesaid Singlewoman was delivered of a female Bastard Child and that the said Bastard Child is likely to become chargeable to the said Parish of Probus and hath charged the abovebound James Charles with having gotten her with Child of the said Bastard Child If therefore James Charles and Richard Charles or either of them, their, or either of their heirs executors adminrs and assigns do and shall from time to time and at all times hereafter fully and clearly indemnify and save harmless as well the abovementioned Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Probus and their successors for the time being as also of all and singular the other parishioners and inhabitants of the said Parish of Probus which now are or hereafter shall be for the time being of and from all manner of costs taxes rates assessments and charges whatsoever for or by reason of the birth education and maintenance of the said Child and of and from all actions suits troubles and other charges and demands whatsoever touching or concerning the same then this present obligation to be void and of none effect or otherwise of full force
