Bond for maintaining Margery Penticosts Base Child
Know all Men by these presents That we Walter Roberts of
the parish of St Enoder in the County of Cornwall
Labourer John Roberts of the said parish of St Enoder
Labourer John Roberts the younger of the parish of St
Enoder aforesaid Labourer and William Roberts of the
parish of St Erme in the said County of Cornwall
Labourer are held and firmly bound unto John Buckingham
and Mathew Truscott Churchwardens of the parish of
Probus in the County of Cornwall aforesaid and Sampson
Tresawna and James Edwards Overseers of the Poor of the
same parish in the sum of Fifty Pounds of Lawfull money
of Great Britain to be paid to them the said
Churchwardens and overseers of the Poor or either of
them or their or either of their successors for the time
being, To which payment well and truly to be made we
bind ourselves jointly and severally our and each of our
Heirs Execrs and Admrs and every of them firmly by these
presents Sealed with our Seales Dated this fourth day of
May in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred
and Sixtytwo
The Condition of this obligation is such That Whereas
Margery Penticost of the Parish of Probus aforesaid
singlewoman is now big with a Child or Children which
Child or Children when borne will probably be a Bastard
or Bastards and likely to become chargeable to the said
parish of Probus And Whereas the above bounden Walter
Roberts is the Reputed father of such Child or Children
with which the said Mary Penticost is now bigg If
therefore the said Walter Roberts John Roberts John
Roberts the younger and William Roberts or either of
them their or either of their Heirs Execrs or Admrs do
and shall from time to time and at all times hereafter
fully and clearly acquit discharge and save harmless as
well the said John Buckingham Mathew Truscott Sampson
Tresawna and James Edwards the Churchwardens and
overseers of the Poor of the parish of Probus aforesaid
and their Successors for the time being as also all
other the Inhabitants and parishioners of the said
parish which now or hereafter shall be and every of them
of and from all and all manner of Costs Charges Expenses
and Incumberances whatsoever for or by reason or means
of the Birth Education Maintainance and bringing up of
such base Child or Children with which the said Margery
Penticost is now big as aforesaid and of and from all
actions suits charges and Expences whatsoever touching
or concerning the same That then this present obligation
to be void and of none Effect otherwise to remaine in
full force and vertue
