Willm Phillips and Peter Phillips
Bond in Bastarday, to Indemnify the Parish of Probus
Know all Men by these Presents that We William Phillips of the Parish of
Probus Husbandman and Peter Phillips of the Parish of Landlivery
Husbandman Both of the County of Cornwall, are held and firmly bound
unto Matthew Roberts, and Thomas Gerrans Churchwardens, and Richard
Carveth and Samson Tresawna Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of
Probus in the said County (in trust for the Parishioners of the said
Parish) in the Sum of Sixty Pounds of Good and lawful Money of Great
Britain, to be paid to the said Matthew Roberts, and Thomas Gerrans
Churchwardens, Richard Carveth and Samson Tresawna Overseers, or their
certain Attorney, their executors, administrators, or assigns: To which
payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves, and each of us,
jointly and severally, and our and each and every of our Heirs,
Executors and Administrators, firmly by these Presents; Sealed with our
Seals and dated the tenth day of July In the forty-second year of the
Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third of Great Britain King,
defender of the faith and so forth, and in the Year of our Lord One
thousand Eight hundred and two.
The Condition of this obligation is such, that whereas Mary Hoar of the
Parish of Probus single woman in her examination taken in writing upon
Oath, before Jeremiah Trish, Clerk one of his Majesty’s Justices of the
Peace in and for the said County, hath declared, that on the twenty
first day of March now last past at Trevolland in the Parish of Probus
in the County aforesaid, she the said Mary Hoar was delivered of a
(Male) Bastard child, and that the said bastard child is likely to
become chargeable to the said Parish of Probus and hath charged the
abovebound William Phillips with having gotten her with child of the
said bastard Child, If therefore the said William Phillips and Peter
Phillips, or either of them, their or either of their heirs, executors,
or administrators, do and shall from time to time and at all times
hereafter, fully and clearly indemnify and save harmless, as well the
abovenamed Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of
Probus, and their successors for the time being, ?--- all and singular
the other Parishioners and inhabitants of the said Parish of Probus,
which now are, or hereafter shall be for the time being, of and from all
manner of costs, taxes, rates, assessments, and charges whatsoever, for
or by reason of the birth, education, and maintenance of the said child,
and of and from all actions, suits, troubles and other charges and
demands whatsoever, touching or concerning the same, that then this
present obligation to be void otherwise of force
