T Harris’s Bond for the maintenance of Mary Harris’s base child

Know all men by these presents that we Thomas Harris Senr and Thomas Harris Junr boath of the Parish of Probus are held and firmly bound to John Truscott and William Rowe Churchwardens, and William Plummer and Melchisedec Hotten Overseers of the poor of the parish of Probus and to their successors for the time being or their certain Attorney in the full sum of fifty pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to the said John Truscott William Rowe William Plummer and Melchisedec Hotten or their successors for the time being or their lawful Attorney or some of them to which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves and every of us by himself, for and in the whole, our Heirs, Executors, Administrators, and every of us firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this eighth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty six.
 
The Condition of this present Obligation is such Whereas Mary Harris hath lately been delivered of a bastard child which is likely to become chargeable to the said parish of Probus Now the condition of this obligation is such that if the above bound Thomas Harris Senr and Thomas Harris Junr or any or either of them, their or any of their Heirs Executors or Administrators do and shall from time to time and at all times hereafter fully and clearly acqit free and discharge or well and sufficiently save and keep harmless and indemnified the above named John Truscott William Rowe William Plummer and Melchisedec Hotten and their successors for the time being and every of them as also the inhabitants and Parishioners of the said Parish of Probus which now are or hereafter shall be for the time being and every of them of and from all manner of Expences damages costs and charges whatsoever which shall or may at any time hereafter arise happen grow or be imposed on them, or any or either of them for or by reason or means of the maintenance education and bringing up of the said base child and of and from all other actions suits troubles charges damages and demands whatsoever touching or concerning the same then this obligation to be void and of no effect otherwise to remain and be in full effect power and virtue. Witness our Hands and Seals this eighth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty six.
