John Grieve to Churchwardens etc of Probus
 
Bond of Indemnity for Patience Grose’s Bastard Child a female aged now near 3 years
 
Know all Men by these Presents that I John Grieve of the Parish of Probus in the County of Cornwall Yeoman am held and firmly bound unto William Huddy and John Gummoe Churchwardens and Hugh Hutton and Jame Huddey Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Probus (In Trust for the Parishioners of the said parish) in the sum of One Hundred Pounds of Good and lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid unto the said William Huddy John Gummoe Hugh Hutton and James Huddey or their certain Attorney Exors Admrs or Assigns to which payment to be well and truly made I bind myself my Heirs Exors and Admors and every of them firmly by these presents Sealed with my Seal Dated the Twentyfifth day of May in the Twentyfifth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King defender of the faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eightyfive
 
The Condition of this Obligation is such that Whereas Patience Grose of the parish of Probus aforesaid Singlewoman hath been some time past delivered of a female child and which was born a Bastard and is likely to become chargeable to the said parish of Probus or to the Inhabitants thereof If therefore the said John Grieve his Heirs Exors and Admors or any or either of them do and shall from time to time and at all times hereafter fully and clearly indemnify and save harmless as well the abovenamed Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Probus and their Successors for the time being as also all and singular the other Parishioners and Inhabitants of the said parish of Probus which now are or hereafter shall be for the time being of and from all and all Manner of Costs Taxes Rates Assessments and Charges whatsoever by or by Reason of the Birth Maintenance Education and bringing up of the said female Child and of and from all Actions Suits Troubles Charges and Demands whatsoever touching or concerning the same Then this Obligation to be void, else to remain in full force.
