John and Thomas Martyn the Younger Indemnification and
Bond in Bastardy
Know all Men by these Presents That We John Martyn
Carpenter and Thomas Martyn the younger Husbandman both
of the Parish of Probus in the County of Cornwall are
jointly and severally held and firmly bound to Matthew
Roberts and Thomas Gerrans Churchwardens, and John
Kessell Charles Carter and Robert Goodfellow Overseers
of the Poor of the said Parish of Probus in the County
of Cornwall in the Sum of One Hundred Pounds of lawful
Money of Great Britian to be paid to the said
Churchwardens and Overseers or their certain Attorney
Executors Administrators or Assigns for which Payment to
be well and truly made We bind ourselves and each of us
jointly and severally and each of our Heirs Executors
and Administrators firmly by these Presents. Sealed with
our Seals Dated this fifteenth Day of December in the
forty sixth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord
George the third by the Grace of God of the United
Kingdom of Great Britian and Ireland, King Defender of
the Faith and in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight
hundred and six
The Condition of this Obligation is such That whereas
Hannah Eade of the said Parish of Probus Singlewoman
hath in and by her voluntary Examination taken in
Writing and upon Oath before the Revd William Gregor
Clerk One of his Majestys Justices of the Peace in and
for the said County of Cornwall declared that she is
with Child and that the said Child (or Children) is or
are likely to be born a Bastard, or Bastards and to be
chargeable to the said Parish of Probus and that the
above bounden Thomas Martyn is the father of the said
Child or Children. If therefore the said John Martyn and
Thomas Martyn or either of them their Heirs Executors
Administrators do and shall from time to time and at all
times hereafter fully and clearly indemnify and save
harmless as well the above named Churchwardens and
Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Probus and
their Successors for the time being and also all and
singular other the Parishioners and Inhabitants of the
said Parish which now are or hereafter shall be for the
time being of from and against all manner of Costs Taxes
Rates Assessments and Charges whatsoever for or by
reason of the birth education and maintenance of the
said Child or Children and of and from all actions suits
troubles and incumberances and other Charges and Demands
whatsoever touching and concerning the same then this
Obligation to be void otherwise of Force
