Richd Hutchins to the Churchwardens and Overseers of Probus
to indemnify the sd parish for a Bastard Child
 
Know all Men by these Presents that we Richard Hitchins of the parish of St Ewe in the County of Cornwall Yeoman and Edward Cullum of the parish of Saint Mewan in the said County Carpenter are held and firmly bound to John Kessell and Thomas Nankivell John Rooke Richard Woon and Richard Peters Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the Parish of Probus in the said County of Cornwall In the sum of Fifty Pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to the said John Kessell and Thomas Nankivell John Rooke Richard Woon and Richard Peters or any of them their or every of their Adminisrs, Successors, or Assigns for which payment to be well and truly made we bind ourselves and each of us by himself our and either of our Heirs Executors and Administrators firmly by these presents Sealed with our Seals dated the twentieth day of May in the Thirtyninth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the faith and so forth and in the year of Our Lord One Thousand seven Hundred and Ninety nine.
 
Whereas Rose Bassett of the parish of Probus aforesaid single woman, hath sworn before the Revd William Gregor one of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace for the County of Cornwall aforesaid, That she is big and pregnant with a Bastard Child or Children and that the above bounden Richard Hitchins is the Father of such Child or Children which when born, will become chargeable to the parish of Probus aforesaid. Now the Condition of this Obligation is such, that if the above bounden Richard Hitchins and Edward Cullum, or any, or either of them, their or any or either of their Heirs Executors or Adminrs do and shall from time to time, and at all times hereafter, fully and clearly acquit, free and discharge or well and sufficiently save, defend, keep harmless and Indemnified the above named John Kessell and Thomas Nankivell John Rooke Richard Woon and Richard Peters Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the parish of Probus aforesaid, and their successors for the time being, and every of them; as also the Inhabitants and parishioners of the said parish of Probus, which now are or hereafter shall be for the time being, and every of them, of and from all manner of expences, damages, costs and Charges whatsoever, which shall or may at any time hereafter arise, happen, grow, or be imposed upon them, or any or either of them for or by reason or means of the said Rose Bassett being big with Child or Children as aforesaid; or for or by reason of the Birth, maintenance, Education and bringing up of such Child or Children that she the said Rose Bassett now goeth with and shall be delivered of, and of and from all other Actions, suits, troubles, charges, damages and Demands whatsoever touching or concerning the same, Then this Obligation to be void and of no Effect, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue
